Easter Sunday

Last weekend was Easter Sunday. We didn't do much - woke up, had breakfast, drove around a swanky neighborhood with supposed $18M homes, then, oh yeah... we got kicked out of a country club!

We swung by the Burlingame Country Club to check it out and use the restrooms. As we pulled in, we were directed to our parking spot. I knew then that there must have been a fancy Easter Brunch going on. When we walked in to the main building, we saw many people walking from one wing to another with plates full of food. Everyone, including children and babies, were very dapper. So much khaki! Katon was in workout clothes and I had ripped jeans and a tshirt on.

There was no reception desk, so we both walked around until we found our bathrooms. This is the kind of place where they are above paper towels which you throw away; the Burlingame Country Club provides real towels that are dispensed in a wicker basket that get washed and reused.

After drying my hands on a towel, I went out into the main hall to meet Kataneh and leave. When I found her, she was edging toward the back door that went out to the main grounds area. Of course, going the opposite direction would have taken us out the front door and to our car. So, we went out the back door to check it out. No one seemed to care much.

Once heading out the back door, we saw a few bars set up here and there and a petting zoo off in the distance. 'Ohh, bunnies and goats. Let's go.'

On our way to the petting area, we were cut off by a man with a stern voice 'Can I help you find someone?' Here is how I remember the interaction:
Club guy: Can I help you find someone?
Katon: No, we are just going to pet some animals.
Club guy: [Looks us up and down] Oh, well this is a private club and we have a dress code.
Me: Oh, ok
Club guy: So I'm going to have to ask you guys to leave.
Me: Ok
Club guy starts to head back to the building, and we are supposed to follow. Club guy doesn't realize Katon is really slow because she is 8 months preggo. It takes us 10 minutes to get back to the main foyer. Club guy says 'Thank you, have a good day.' We leave and laugh for the rest of the day about our bad behavior and poor choice of clothes.

We'll be back next year with a baby in tow and plenty of khaki.

Morgan and Kataneh - The Painting

This is the first post on Friberglers - a blog about the lives of Kataneh, Morgan and baby-to-be. We are in high gear, prepping our house and lives for our baby due 2 June 2011.

I thought we'd start this blog with... the start of this blog - the creation of what you are reading now. Since this is a blog about our family, it didn't take too awful long to pick a background image that represented our family. When Kataneh and I got married on 20 Sep 2008, Brendan Monroe was one of my groomsmen. I have known Brendan since around 1994 or 1995. This is the era when TLC ruled the airwaves - Waterfalls or Creep could be heard just by turning on the radio and waiting a few minutes. Coolio's Gangsta's Paradise was released as well as All I Wanna Do by Sherryl Crow and You Don't Know How It Feels by Tom Petty.

Fast forward thirteen years to our wedding. Brendan gave us 'Morgan and Kataneh':

This was one of the most touching gifts we got for our wedding. We hang it proudly in the most prominent place of where ever we live. The coolest thing about it, is that it was painted just for us. After thanking Brendan via an email, he responded to a note he provided with the gift:

Morgan,

Cool Cool. I'm glad you guys like it.
I made that for you guys, it wasn't in any shows.
And I don't know if you caught what I meant by it, but when you get your dog, I will need the painting back to paint him or her in.
And then so on for who ever else is added to the family. Yep.

So with the seed planted in our minds that we'd give the painting back at some point to add to it as our family grew, this image is permanently the background of our blog: Friberglers
